Every European (and I guess non-Europeans as well) can vote what our next Euro design will be: https://surveys.ecb.europa.eu/10b/neweuro/

About ten different designs are available and about half of them feature birds instead of boring people.

I really like the bird designs as they symbolise freedom without borders. Hope one of them gets chosen in the end.

I love design D with the recording and spectrograph of the bird calls as anti-copy measures.

I wish they had different animals. Like birds for the 5€ (light), bears for the 200€ (heavy), and different animals in between.

And for the back famous art paintings.

I love how many of these designs are clearly influenced by the old Dutch Guilders bank note designs. See this for a documentary about it on YouTube.

It’s a PET bottle lid that is attached to the bottle so you don’t lose it, a unique piece of their culture I guess lol

The EU introduced a policy mandating that plastic lids must be permanently attached to bottles, which came into effect a year or so ago.

The law has been controversial. While some hail it for keeping the environment free of lids, others find the attached lids cumbersome.

Personally, I feel that the lid is not cumbersome at all (just flip the lid over and drink from the other side to avoid splashing?), and having fewer lonely bottle caps littered everywhere is generally quite good!

And if people dislike the lids enough to avoid drinking from single-use plastic bottles, hey, that’s another benefit! Especially for regions where the tap water is drinkable (e.g. Germany)

In the EU, water bottles are required to have the cap connected to the bottle (reduces waste of the bottle caps)

It’s quite interesting, when you go to a non EU governed area (like Norway or the Faroe Islands) the bottles no longer have the cap connected to the plastic ring bit

I know I’m commenting on a bird community. But I don’t want all the notes to have birds & buildings.

The other design is much worse though.

There’s really only 2 options: birds and select few people. Why though? What’s wrong with the current notes? Can’t we have more than 2 options? I hate both of them.

I guess some people in Brussels have to justify their positions and spend millions doing so.

I’m perfectly happy with the current design and I also wouldn’t mind the birds but the EU institutes on the other side I do mind. It’s just where the EU is governed from and that’s really not important and just stokes the ego of the people sitting there. Put something significant on it.

    Birds > people

Putting actual people on banknotes… Have we learned nothing from metoo? WTF?!

Im not even that big on birds but the bird designs are so much better than the people ones and also in general i dont think people on banknotes are that good of an idea. Birds on the other hand are something we can all relate to and should think about more cause many species are in danger.

Many of the people designs felt like they were for a corporate convention/seminar, or maybe a local library, not an EU banknote. Bravo to them for trying something new, but on the other hand, ew.

I much prefer the birds over the people =w=

I mean, most of the people on there have 0 relevancy to my country, and I imagine it’s not an uncommon sentiment elsewhere. Birds at least don’t exclude a bunch of countries

I also quite like the vertical/portrait orientation designs in there, I think it would be a cool change

I assume these are in the same order for everyone, but I loved the first set of vertical ones; the ones with might contrast. Most of the designs felt afraid to use color, since the note is supposed to be one color to identify them easily. I honestly think having the high contrast with the birds makes them easier to identify though. 90% of it was still the right color, so that’s still easy to see. Having the image stand out just gives it another identifiable piece though, which can’t hurt, and it makes them look so much prettier.

I believe they’re under the same letters for everyone. I’ll include the pictures just in case :3

        For me “D”

Is my favourite overall, I love the bright colours on it, though I think the 20 maybe is a bit crowded, with the multiple birds and the security strip it all kinda clashes and you lose the shapes in the middle imo

The other vertical ones with birds (“I” and “J”) are my 2 runner ups, (I just think the vertical designs are cool :3), “J”

I think has better colours than “I”, and I like that the colouration of the birds is somewhat preserved in the accents on them both. “I”

Overall looks the most rustic/traditional, while “D” the most modern I think.

Well the 50 is a white stork, actually the national bird of my country :3 we have (or used to have back when I learned it in school) the highest nesting density of storks :3 and also a holiday about celebrating storks

        The others I believe are:

        • 5 - scarlet wallcreeper
        • 10 - kingfisher
        • 20 - european bee eater
        • 100 - avocet
        • 200 - northern gannet

I’ve seen a few of those in the wild, but definitely not all :3

That would be my bird criticism too. I recognized 4/6 people on the notes but have no idea what these birds are or where they live. I would expect crows, magpies, swallows, seagulls or even those green parakeets that are technically invasive but are all over Europe.

Done. I feel bad saying I hate the other designs, but I am sure they’re going to grade these scaled.
